If you’re still looking for that perfect romantic autumn accommodation, and didn’t see your province listed on last week’s autumn getaways post, look no further than the four following escapes, in the northern regions of South Africa:
1. Gauteng – Dinkwe Guest House, Pretoria
Rated 3-stars from the TGCSA, it’s easy to fall in love with the beautiful meeting of lush tropical communal areas combined with the luxurious, warm bedrooms offered at Dinkwe Guest House. They only have a capacity for eight people, ensuring your stay will be intimate and comfortable. They are in a quiet neighbourhood near the Magalies Mountains, allowing easy access to the city of Pretoria, surroundings, historical sites, Sun City and the Pilanesberg National Park.
The four suites each have a double or queen-sized bed, soft cotton percale linen, television, satellite TV, complimentary coffee and tea, bathroom with soft towels and bathrobes, toiletries, and there is a small kitchenette. Private entrances on all the rooms open onto the tropical garden, and there is also a swimming pool to enjoy.
2. North-West – Three Oaks and an Aloe, Hartbeespoort
If you’re seeking a country-esque accommodation with plenty of secluded spots to kiss and cuddle, look no further than Three Oaks and an Aloe, located in Schoemansvillle, only a short drive from Harteespoort Dam. There are shared communal areas, namely the lovely dining area, boma, braai, and swimming pool. There is also a spa room. The large grounds are ideal for couples to stroll through, hand-in-hand.
The rooms on offer are all decorated with warm, jewelled tones. Rich red accents bring the rooms to life, and the bedrooms-cum-bathrooms are ideal for those who enjoy soaking, while chatting with their partner. There are also self-catering suites available, which have small kitchenettes attached.
3. Northern Cape – River Place Guest House, Upington
Set along the banks of the Orange River, with spectacular views, large luxury rooms, and almost every comfort you can imagine, River Place Guest House in the Green Kalahari is ideal for an autumn escape. You’ll enjoy personalized attention, your own private entrance, balcony or patio with views of the lush vineyard or meandering river, and semi-self-catering facilities along with a braai. Escape into the surroundings by using one of the canoes to explore the nooks and crannies along the river – just don’t forget to pack a small picnic lunch, which you can enjoy on the lawns. Bird-watchers will also be in for a treat, as there are 20 raptor species in the area.
The rooms on offer are quite large, with various bed sizes to choose from, and family rooms that have an additional double bed. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, as well as DStv, kitchenettes, and mini bars on request.
4. Mpumalanga – Laughing Waters, Sabie River Valley
With an enviable position in the Sabie River Valley, allowing guests easy access to Hazyview, the Kruger National Park, and the Panorama Route, Laughing Waters is the ideal home-base. There are walking trails throughout the farm, along with plenty of bird watching spots, and as the Sabie River runs through the property, the occasional chance sighting of hippos and crocodiles. Guests can enjoy the communal guest lounge with a large fireplace, a swimming pool, honesty bar, and dining room – where hearty farm breakfasts are served daily.
With only six rooms on offer, you’re in for a very intimate stay. All the rooms offer king-sized or three-quarter beds, built-in cupboards, fans, complimentary tea and coffee, en-suite bathrooms with either bath and shower combos or shower only, and access to Wi-Fi.
