Framed by timeless oak and pecan trees, Knysna Hollow Country Estate is beautifully laid out on a secluded country estate on the edge of Knysna. Although we didn’t stay there, my husband and I enjoyed a romantic dinner at the cosy Knysna Hollow Restaurant to celebrate #1 being in Knysna, #2 being in Knysna without the kids, and #3 the final day of my 20s. After chatting to us about the estate, the gregarious manager, Martin, encouraged us to take a stroll around and enjoy the ambiance of the surroundings. First impressions always count, and we loved the relaxed, close community, resort feel that it gave us.

Accommodation

Accommodation on the 2 hectare estate consists of 64 Garden Rooms, 10 Garden Chalets, and 5 Family Garden Chalets. All of the units are tastefully decorated in a Knysna forest feel and amenities include television, tea and coffee making facilities, ceiling fans, and private patios. The Garden Chalets all have telephones and mini bar fridges; while 10 of the units have fireplaces, heated towel rails, and Charlotte Rhys bath products.

Restaurants

  • Unwind with pre-drinks in the laid-back Rutland Arms Pub, a warm and friendly spot to socialise with friends, family, and other guests. Sport is screened on satellite televisions, while ice-cold local Mitchell’s draught is served on tap.

  • The Pecan Tree Grill Room is Knysna Hollow’s newest dining venue, offering contemporary Cape cuisine in a stylish setting.

  • Knysna Hollow Country Estate boasts 3 beautiful swimming pools, including a kiddies pool.
  • The lodge also has an intimate boutique-style curio shop where visitors can purchase unique, branded, quality clothing, as well as local arts and crafts at great prices.
  • Kids and adults alike will enjoy playing a game of giant chess in the rose garden. The lodge also offers a full-sized Pentanque court with a Boulle set for outdoor fun and games.
  • The organic herb garden features a compost-producing, organic worm-house which is worth a visit for those with a green thumb, or the just plain curious.
