Following our posts on winter holiday activities in Cape Town and Durban, we simply couldn’t risk leaving stressed out Johannesburg mothers out in the cold (literally). Read on to find out some exciting spots in Joburg you can take your kids to in order to escape the cold these winter holidays:
Lazer Battle Zone, Randburg
Kids from 6 years and up will revel in the excitement of Lazer Battle Zone at Brightwater Commons. The new system has bases, targets, and energy gates to add to the game play, as well as hyper-shields, rapid fire, and custom weapons. Play with your kids or sit back at a coffee shop while they tire themselves out. The Lazer Battle Zone is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11h30 – 20h00, Friday from 11h30 – 23h00, Saturday from 09h30 – 23h00, Sunday from 10h00 – 20h00, and public holidays from 10h00 – 21h00. Jungle Rumble Indoor Playground, Mulbarton
Jungle Rumble Indoor Playground at the Panorama Shop & Leisure Centre is a wonderful indoor attraction for kids of all ages. Children will be kept busy with jumping castles, ball ponds, slides, play dough areas, soccer area, rides, jungle gym, bumper cars, arcade, and a baby area. Mugg & Bean now offers refreshments for parents as they enjoy a bit of time off. Galaxy World, Johannesburg CBD
Situated at Carlton Centre, Galaxy World provides a fun day for all ages, with a focus on all-round indoor entertainment. The whole family can enjoy entertainment like ten pin bowling, bumper cars, pool n pub, and an arcade with over 100 coin-operated amusement machines. Wonderwall, Kya Sands
Wonderwall is Johannesburg’s premier indoor climbing gym. It is fantastic for those with slightly older kids, with climbing walls with both top-rope and lead facilities and a 3 metre high bouldering cave. A restaurant and bar is available on site for parents. Wonderwall is open Tuesday to Friday from 10h00 – 22h00, weekends and public holidays from 09h00 – 18h00, and closed on Monday. Xtreme Indoor Karting, Rivonia
For those kids who need to let off a little steam, Xtreme Indoor Karting is the place to be! As it is an indoor venue, you won’t have to worry about the cold. Kids can enjoy a challenging race track with both junior and senior karts – should parents wish to get in on the action. Johannesburg Planetarium, Braamfontein
With both fun and educational elements, the Johannesburg Planetarium is the best bet for cool days. With children shows, family shows, and The Sky Tonight Shows, visitors of all ages are sure to be impressed. The planetarium is open Monday – Sunday with morning, afternoon, and evening shows. Orango Tango’s, Randburg
South Africa’s premier play centre, Orango Tango’s is not to be missed for some indoor winter holiday fun. The enormous indoor play venue caters for kids between the ages of 1 -12 years with jungle gyms, ball ponds, bumper cars, indoor soccer, and a special play area for the very little ones. Older kids will enjoy playing pool or table tennis or even testing their skills on the PlayStation 3 consoles. Refreshments and a Wi-Fi hotspot are available for parents. Northgate Ice Arena, Randburg
South Africa’s climate never allows for outdoor ice skating, but Northgate Ice Arena at Northgate Mall in Northriding is the next best thing. Enjoy a bit of free time while your kids find their feet on the ice. The ice rink is open daily, with day (10h00 – 17h00) and evening (19h30 – 22h30) sessions. Skates are available for hire.
