Description

Addo, home to the world-famous Addo Elephant National Park, is a popular tourist region in the Eastern Cape. While here, visitors can experience the sights and sounds of Africa, and see the Big 7 – the black rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, great white shark, and the sperm whale. Have a memorable holiday by booking one of our fantastic Addo accommodations below.

Addo stretches from the edge of Darlington Dam in the north to Colchester at the coast, incorporating the spectacular Sundays River Valley. The striking landscape is made up of a plethora of fauna and flora, from the arid Karoo basin with succulents and never-ending plains, through grassland vegetation and valley bushveld, to subtropical thickets. The Addo area is surrounded by the magnificent Zuurberg Mountains, and includes the Alexandria dune field, featuring the highest dunes south of the Namib Desert.

The Addo region features some of the most fulfilling attractions in the world. Visiting the Addo Elephant National Park is a must for first-time visitors. It was established in 1931 to save 11 elephants from extinction, and now boasts over 550 thriving elephants. Located in 120,000 hectares of land, it is the third largest park in South Africa. The Sundays River Valley, nestled in the outskirts of the park, is one of the country’s main citrus producers. Millions of oranges grown here find their way around the world from the orange packing facilities in the valley. The Addo area is also famous for roses and the Addo Rose and Garden Show, held in October, is considered one of the best of its kind in the world. The small settlement of Kirkwood is definitely worth a visit, especially in June when it hosts the Kirkwood Wildlife Festival.

While in Addo, one can enjoy a series of exciting activities such as game viewing, horse riding, elephant back safaris, hiking, citrus tours, private game reserves, donkey cart rides, and mountain walks. The region is incredibly diverse, and remains largely undiscovered despite the throngs of visitors to Addo Elephant Park.

Make sure you take the time to explore the area in all its natural beauty, by choosing from our wonderful selection of Addo accommodations listed below.
