Description
Bird's Haven Beach House is a private, fully furnished self-catering beach house built on the dunes of a private 4km stretch of unspoilt beach in Jakkalsfontein, a 1,700-hectare guarded private nature reserve situated along the West Coast, a mere 20 minute drive from Yzerfontein and 79 km from Cape Town city centre. If you are looking for a tranquil break in nature, this is the ideal getaway spot for you.
The house can accommodate up to 6 guests and comprises of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area with an indoor fireplace to keep you warm on those cold nights. The first bedroom contains a king-size bed, a TV, and an ensuite bathroom consisting of a bath, shower, toilet and washbasin. This room has a sliding door opening onto the patio with a view of the ocean. The second bedroom contains a double bed, and the third bedroom contains 2 single beds. These 2 rooms share a bathroom comprising of a bath, shower, toilet and washbasin.
The house also offers free Wi-Fi.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge-freezer, hob and oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine, and a breakfast bar with 4 stools. The dining area contains an 8-seater dining table and chairs. The lounge contains comfortable seating and an indoor fireplace. Sliding doors lead to a private patio with outdoor dining furniture, a built-in braai, and unobstructed panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Dassen Island and the nature reserve.
The Jakkalsfontein reserve offers a communal 25-metre solar-heated swimming pool, communal clubhouse, braai facilities, and games room as well as tennis and squash courts - all of this available at no extra charge to you throughout your stay at Bird's Haven. Alongside the pool is an enclosed grass play area with a jungle gym suited for young children. Activities in the reserve include walking trails and tarred roads for cycling and mountain biking tracks.
Jakkalsfontein is a lowland Fynbos reserve that is home to over 500 plants, 150 birds and several mammal species, which include steenbok, duiker, grysbok, African wild cat and caracal. The reserve's indigenous fynbos and vleiland ecosystems make it a bird watcher's paradise.
