Description

De Hoop Village offers comfortable accommodation in 9 tastefully furnished self-catering cottages surrounded by the beautiful De Hoop Nature Reserve. The cottages are well appointed, and De Hoop Village forms part of the Opstal area, which is close to the hub of central offices, and the on-site restaurant, bar, and curio shop. Guests can either drive, hike or cycle to many of the interesting locations in the reserve.

The cottages are white-wash-walled fisherman-style houses characteristic of the Western Cape Coast, and are ideal for a getaway with friends and family. Each cottage comprises 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area. Each cottage is equipped with a kettle and toaster, a microwave, a fridge-freezer, an oven and stove, basic crockery and cutlery, basic kitchen utensils, and braai equipment. Dish-washing liquid and a sponge is provided. Other amenities include linen and coat hangers, bath towels, soap, hand wash, shampoo and conditioner, body wash and body lotion.

De Hoop Nature Reserve offers sea, sand dunes, the vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope, and the Potberg mountains. Birders can observe wading birds on the shores of the vlei, while the Potberg mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures. Hikers and cyclists can enjoy close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, baboons, and ostrich. Guests can choose between various day walks through the rich fynbos plains or along the deserted coastline, mountain biking along the many gravel roads or scenic game drives. Lazing on the beach and snorkelling in the turquoise rock pools is another activity guests can enjoy. There is a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a boules courtyard.

Every year, in season, Southern Right whales come to the shores to breed. These endangered mammals ensure that De Hoop Nature Reserve offers a wonderful land-based whale-watching experience. As a marine reserve and World Heritage Site, De Hoop ensures a safe nursery for these pods of visiting cetaceans. They can come so close to shore that visitors can relax on the sand dunes and watch in awe as these beautiful creatures calve, blow, breach and belly flop. The season runs from the end of May through to November. The on-site Fig Tree Restaurant is open daily, and De Hoop weddings, team building and conferences are available.
