Description
Die Blokhuis is located on the Geelbeksbrug working sheep and olive farm in the Klein Karoo, next to the N1 and just 12 km from Laingsburg. Die Blokhuis was built in 1901 and housed 30 soldiers to protect the steel train bridge during the Anglo Boer War; it is a National Monument.
Accommodation is offered in 2 self-catering units that offer a quiet and tranquil resting place for those who want a break away from the hustle and bustle of city life, or the tired traveller that needs a place to stay overnight. The Honeymoon Suite sleeps 3 guests and The Big House which is an old farmhouse sleeps 6 guests. Each unit is equipped with a fridge, microwave, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and a TV with OpenView HD channels. In addition each unit has an indoor fireplace for those cold Karoo winter nights. Outdoor braai facilities are available.
The farm is owned by Aubrey and Debbie Jack, and their son Dane helps with the day-to-day running of the farm. Guests can enjoy awesome star gazing, and for those who love bird watching over 37 species have been ringed on the farm.
