Description
Kareefontein is located on a Merino sheep farm that is about 30 km from Gariep Dam and only 23 km from the N1. The house is built on the foot of a hillside that offers breathtaking views of the plains. The farm offers a variety of wildlife. It's an eco-lodge without Eskom, meaning there is no electricity supply from the national grid.
The house can accommodate up to 15 guests and comprises 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen and living area. There are 2 bedrooms furnished with queen-size beds, of which both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers and 1 with a bath as well. The third bedroom contains a double bed. The fourth bedroom contains 3 single beds. There are 2 loft-style bedrooms, of which one contains a queen-size bed and the other with 2 single beds and 2 extra mattresses. The third bathroom contains a shower. The fourth bathroom has a corner bath and a shower.
The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and contains a stove, fridge-freezer, microwave, cutlery and crockery. The dining area has seating space for 10 people, while the lounge has a comfy lounge suite and a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. The oven should preferably only be used during the day because we make use of solar power and do not want it to drain the batteries at night, and leave all the guests without electricity.
The house has a large built-in braai and also a fireplace for those cold winter days. There is also an outside braai. The garage has room for 4 vehicles, and there is a laundry room outside.
For the hot summer days, there is a swimming hole in the mountain building near the house.
The house is exclusively booked per reservation. This is an experience that cannot be compared to other guesthouses. You are alone in nature on the farm.
The location makes it ideal for people who want to come fishing at the Gariep Dam and the Orange River. Fly fishing excursions can be arranged at exclusive locations along the river.
