Mountain Retreat in UNESCO Biosphere is a quiet self-catering retreat situated in Rooi-Els in the Western Cape region, within a UNESCO Biosphere, surrounded by mountains, and ideal for nature lovers. The house is an architectural masterpiece, just 50 minutes drive from Cape Town International Airport, on the whale coast, with garden views across the village from the 360-degree cantilever balcony designed to hinder the resident baboons. The house is 23 km from Gordon's Bay and 26 km from Kleinmond, where the closest grocery stores can be found.
The air-conditioned home can accommodate up to 8 guests, with 3 open plan en-suite bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The first bedroom contains a king-size bed and an open plan en-suite bathroom with a shower-over-bath, a toilet and a washbasin. The second and third bedrooms each contain a king-size beds and an open-plan shower en suite with a toilet and washbasin. There is a study area leading off some of the bedrooms that contains a double sleeper couch that can accommodate 2 additional guests.
Uncapped Wi-Fi is available. Ascend the floating staircase to a living space accentuated by tinted windows ensuring comfortable temperature, with aircon throughout. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with an imported Fratelli Onofri oven, gas hob, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, and a separate scullery. The dining area contains a 6-seater dining table, and the lounge features an L-shaped couch. The living area flows easily to a covered patio with outdoor dining furniture, a braai facility and a jacuzzi. Covered parking is available on-site.
The intimate Rooi-Els rocky beach can be reached within approximately a 5 minute walk from the holiday home, or take a 10 minute drive to Dappat se Gat for a truly breathtaking beach experience. Here you can explore the surrounding caves, after taking a dip in the refreshingly clear ocean, surrounded by small fish; the walk has steep steps. Stony Point Penguin Colony is only 12 km away, or you could go kayaking along the Kleinmond Lagoon and have a look out for the local wild horses that roam along the water's edge.
It is an isolated village, with many outdoor activities on offer, such as surfing, hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, beach outings and many of South Africa's top restaurants within a 55km radius.
