Description

Located in the heart of Beaufort West, Old House Lodge is a well-preserved Karoo homestead dating from the early 1900s. It has a serene, old-world charm and surrounding its guests with the warmth of the Karoo hospitality. The aim is to make guests stay in Beaufort West a memorable and pleasant experience.

Accommodation comprises 8 rooms, perfect for corporate travellers and tourists alike. Rooms feature comfortable extra-length queen-size beds or twin beds, made up with the quality linen and en-suite bathrooms. Towels, shampoo, soap and lotion and are provided during your stay. Other in-room amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TV with selected DStv channels and free Wi-Fi Internet access. Additionally, a safe, bar fridge and tea-and coffee-making facilities with complimentary rusks are provided. Fireplaces are available in the building, which is ideal for colder nights.

Other services and facilities available at Old House Lodge include credit card facilities, a laundry service if needed and secure parking facilities. Guests also have access to a lavender garden, Braai facilities, and a splash pool.

Just south of Beaufort West is the Karoo National Park which stretches into the Nuweveld Mountain range. It has an array of wildlife including some of South Africa’s most endangered species. There are 2 endangered species, namely the Riverine Rabbit and the Black Rhinoceros, have been successfully resettled here. The park is home to 5 tortoise species, the most in any conservation area in the world. A fossil trail, day walks, and hikes ensure an abundance of sights and activities. The park also has challenging 4x4 routes into the mountains. The Karoo area is also a very popular destination for nature lovers, cyclists, and golf enthusiasts.

Beaufort West is also home to the famous South African heart surgeon, Dr. Chris Barnard. He performed the first heart transplantation in the world. He is honored in Beaufort West in the Dr. Chris Barnard Museum.
