Description
Somkhanda Big 5 Tourism offers thatched-roof chalets and camping accommodation, and is located in the private community-owned Big 5 game reserve. The lodge is situated on the 12,000-hectare reserve that boasts rolling hills and natural bushland habitat.
Accommodation at Somkhanda Big 5 Tourism comprises various thatched-roof chalets and shady camping sites. Each chalet features a private bathroom and contains amenities such as a ceiling fan, a bar fridge, and tea- and coffee-making facilities; each chalet has access to a communal kitchen with basic appliances to cook meals. Each campsite has access to communal ablution facilities.
The main lodge area offers a splash pool, a communal kitchen, a boma braai area, and a viewing overlooking a watering hole where various game frequent.
This 12,000-hectare community-owned game reserve forms part of an important conservation area between the Zululand Rhino Reserve and Pongola Game Reserve, particularly for the endangered Black and White rhino and Wild dog. Somkhanda Game Reserve is also home to impala, greater kudu, giraffe, and an extraordinarily high density of leopard, compared to any other reserve in Africa.
