St James Cottage is situated in Kalk Bay and offers comfortable self-catering accommodation in a family-friendly historic cottage, within walking distance to St James Beach and the tidal pool. The cottage was built in 1853 and has many original features such as wide walls and sash windows.

The cottage is on a large property opposite the beach with a secret garden behind the high fence. It has its own entrance and enclosed little garden, graced by sunbirds. The cottage comprises 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area with sash windows. The first bedroom is furnished with a queen-size bed the second with a double bed, and third bedroom with a 1 single bed. The bathroom has a shower-fixed-over-bath, a toilet and washbasin. The bedrooms interlead but each has their own separate door. There is an enclosed porch with an extra single bed, overlooking the garden. There are well as board games, puzzles, books and magazines. There is also Wi-Fi available in the cottage.

The cottage was one of the first houses in St James, and when it was built had only a wagon track and the beach in front of it. The cottage was originally the barn adjoining the main house. There is minimal sea views with the high fence offering guests ultimate privacy so close to the ocean. Because of the configuration of the bedrooms, the cottage is ideal for a family, not for 2 couples.

The location is ideal for those looking for a comfortable base for a family holiday, accessible to the beach and local attractions. St James is located between Muizenberg and Kalk Bay. This little suburb comprises holiday houses nestled against the mountain, most of them historic and accessible only by steps. The main attractions are beautiful beaches, and the tidal pool with its colourful huts, which is a landmark in the area. Guests are welcome to borrow a beach umbrella and beach chairs if needed.

The cottage is self-catering but there are so many great restaurants in the area that there is no need to cook. Folk Cafe, which is directly opposite, has good coffee and food and a children's playground. If you would like to pamper yourself, there is a Wellness Centre right next door, and my neighbour Joan also has a beauty salon next to your parking bay.
