Description
Suidster is an elegant hideaway at the foot of the Langeberg mountains, on a 110-hectare off-the-grid farm between Barrydale and Montagu. Nestled among pristine fynbos flora, Suidster offers accommodation in 2 self-catering cottages that provide uninterrupted views across the valleys, offering the perfect retreat for discerning travellers looking for refuge in nature.
The 2 luxury cottages, Poortjies and Dwarriega, are elegantly furnished self-sustainable units that have been furnished with attention to detail.
Poortjies is named after the Poortjieskloofdam, only a few kilometres down the road towards Barrydale; the stone used to build the dam wall came from the farm and you can still see what's left of the old quarry on the farm. The quarry created a lush little micro-climate teaming with life. Dwarriega gets its name from the ephemeral Droë-Dwarriega river that runs across the farm past the cottage.
Each cottage can accommodate up to 2 guests and has an open-plan layout. Each cottage features a king-size bed, a ceiling fan, an en-suite bathroom with a free-standing bath and a shower, a fireplace, and a kitchen that is fitted with a stove, microwave, fridge, cutlery, and crockery. Each cottage opens to a deck with outdoor furniture and its own outdoor shower. In addition, each cottage has its own KolKol wood-fired hot tub.
Suidster was built as a self-sustainable hideaway in the Klein Karoo, relying on the sun for power and the soil for food. The cottages and the main house run from solar and are completely off-the-grid. Guests have access to braai facilities.
There is a lovely 5 km trail starting at the pile of stones near the top of the main road that runs past the cottages to the main house.
