Description
Walkerbouts is a spacious homestead with comfortable accommodation, fine country cuisine and hospitality in the best traditions of the Platteland. The relaxed and hospitable atmosphere makes it a veritable home-from-home in the Southern Drakensberg.
The accommodation comprises 6 units, of which 3 comprise a double bed and a single bed, 2 are family rooms with a double bed and 2 single beds, and 1 is a single room with a three quarter bed. Each unit has an en-suite bathroom.
Walkerbouts is located in the historic village of Rhodes and is surrounded by hundreds of kilometres of high altitude mountain streams and rivers. Fly fishing for wild trout and Small-mouth Yellow fish can be arranged at Walkerbouts on more than 200 km of Wild Trout Association waters within an hour’s drive of Rhodes and weather willing.
The village is more than 1800 m above sea level and the highest nearby peak, Ben McDhui, soars to 3001 m above sea level. Barkly East is 60 km away on a narrow and winding gravel road that must be driven with care. Rhodes, with its turn of the last century architecture and shady, tree-lined streets, has retained its charm and, in July 1997, it was proclaimed a National Monument.
Attractions in the area include snow skiing in winter, spectacular alpine flowers in summer, mountain biking, birding, walks, rock art visits by prior arrangement, 4x4 trails or simply chilling.
