Description

With breathtaking views of the Msinene River valley and surrounding bushveld, Zululand Lodge is a privately owned tented camp on the 800-hectare uKuwela wildlife conservancy located in the heart of the Elephant Coast, northern KwaZulu-Natal. It is close to the town of Hluhluwe, the famous Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, and the World Heritage iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

This eco-friendly lodge offers guests a choice of tastefully decorated en-suite permanent canvas tents, and each tent can accommodate 2 people. The tents are furnished with 2 three-quarter beds or double beds with comfortable linen and have en-suite bathroom facilities. The accommodation includes lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast, tea and coffee in the lodge dining area, and 1 guided walk on the conservancy.

The elegantly furnished central lodge area allows guests to put their feet up and relax in the open-air cushioned lounge area, and enjoy tasty home-made meals in the spacious dining area. Guests can venture upstairs to the viewing deck which offers uninterrupted views, boasting spectacular sunsets while enjoying sundowners.

The lodge was designed and built from the ground up as an environmentally sustainable project, with a solar power system with LED lighting throughout camp, and is completely off the grid. Rainwater is collected in tanks and used for cleaning, irrigation on the grounds, and the small waterhole in front of the lodge. Wastewater is treated in a double septic tank system and biodegradable bathroom soaps are provided. The lodge is staffed 90% from the local community and there is an in-house staff training and development program.

A game walk along the Msinene River presents birdwatchers with a myriad of species and opportunities to see the shy Nyala antelope, resident leopard population, and hippo pods.

For a Big 5 game viewing experience, any of the close by game reserves offer great options, with local open vehicle operators offering guided game drives while outdoor enthusiasts would find a boat cruise on the Lake St Lucia estuary fascinating. Scuba divers will not be disappointed at the iconic and nearby Sodwana Bay.
