Description

The Barberton Nature Reserve is one of the most accessible nature reserves in Mpumalanga, and has become a popular weekend destination for many day visitors from Barberton and Nelspruit. The 2500 hectare reserve protects a bushveld savannah biome and is accessible to all vehicle types.

The Noordkaap River runs through the reserve with its own unique Sea Dam, providing a watering hole for a number of animals. Visitors can look forward to spotting wildlife like kudu, mountain rhebuck, nyala, zebra, grey duiker, impala, klipspringer, baboon, vervet monkey, wildebeest, leopard, and rare red duiker.

The reserve is also popular for birding with 300 species recorded. The reserve has a lovely picnic area with a built-in braai facility and a lovely stream to splash in. There are plenty of bush walks on designated routes. No overnight accommodation is available.
