Beyerskloof
Description
Beyerskloof is a laidback winery on the R304 just 5km outside of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape. Set at the foot of the Simonsberg mountains, the estate is just 40 minutes from Cape Town and offers exceptional views of the Cape Winelands. The estate offers an indoor tasting centre, cosy lounge area, 3 fireplaces, a restaurant, and an outdoor deck. Whichever venue you choose, you’re invited to come and taste the proudly South African Pinotage varietal that put this winery on the map.
Beyerskloof was formed in 1988 when Beyers Truter of Kanonkop Estate partnered up with 4 passionate wine lovers in Johannesburg. The farm was originally called Nooitgedacht and belonged to the Beyers family for 5 generations before Jan Andries Beyers sold it in 1895. Beyers Truter is a direct descendant, thus making him the 6th generation to run the farm.
International Winemaker of the Year
Beyers Truter is famed for being the first South African to win “International Winemaker of the Year” in 1991 for his Pinotage, a varietal that had long been considered a dud. To this day, the farm has become synonymous with having perfected South Africa’s true cultivar, Pinotage (a proudly South African wine).
Red Leaf Restaurant
The Red Leaf Restaurant is a stunning venue offering “all things Pinotage” with delectable culinary treats, red and black décor, an outdoor deck with fantastic views of the vineyards, and even better wines. Make sure you try the signature dish “the Pinotage Burger”, and other interesting menu options like cheese cake with Pinotage gelato, Pinotage confit onions, and steaks sautéed in Pinotage Brandy and cream. The restaurant is the ideal location for laidback lunches, birthdays, and other special occasions. Breakfast is served until 12h00!
