Description

Chimpanzee Eden, formally known as The Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden, is a 1000 hectare game reserve and sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. This first of its kind sanctuary is situated in the Umhloti Nature Reserve just 15km from Nelspruit, in Mpumalanga, providing a family friendly attraction that is not to be missed.

Founded in 1977, Chimpanzee Eden continues pioneering research on chimpanzee behaviour and provides a safe environment for rescued primates in need of refuge. Since it is the first and only chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa, the venue aims to bring the world of chimpanzees closer to humanity through education, awareness, and tourism.

Visitors can enjoy a day roaming the reserve and learning about the chimpanzees in the sanctuary. Tours run daily at 10h00, 12h00, and 14h00 where you can watch the chimps being fed (except 12h00) and afterwards, you can even decide to virtually adopt one of them! End the day off with something to eat at the restaurant, before purchasing a memento from the curio shop.
