Description
Eunice High School is an English boarding school for girls bordering Grey College and the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, Free State. The school caters for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12 and is the top Mathematics and Science school in the province. Eunice High School runs the Eunice Holiday Hotel which raises funds for various school projects.
HERITAGE
Eunice High School was originally named Oranje Vrij Staat Dames Instituut, and was founded in 1875 by the Dutch Reformed Church. The school has been known as Eunice since the 1980s, after the Greek word meaning “happy victory”, and a biblical reference to Eunice; a woman whose teaching and influence moulded the character of her son. The school opened its doors on 5 June 1875, offering 10 subjects, with Miss Elizabeth Laird from Scotland as the headmistress.
ACADEMICS
Eunice has enjoyed a 100% Matric pass rate for the last 29 years. The school motto is Vincit Qui Se Vincit which means “She Conquers Who Conquers Herself”.
