Flamingo Park Racecourse
Description
Flamingo Park Racecourse is a horse racing track located in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The racecourse is controlled by Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Limited, who are responsible for racing in the Free State, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, and Gauteng. Horse racing is a hugely popular sport in South Africa, with regular racing taking place around the country. The sport in South Africa enjoys a long and rich history that can be traced back to 1797, with the first recorded race club meeting taking place in 1802.
The track: • Sand • 2,000m oval • Races up to 1,000m straight course • Beyond 1,000m clockwise round turn with 600m run-in • Draw of little account in straight races • Low-number draws favoured over 1,200m and to a lesser extent over 1400m and 1600m.
