Grand Central Airport
Description
Grand Central Airport (GCJ) is located in Midrand, Johannesburg, in the Gauteng province of South Africa. The airfield was started in the 1930s by a group of motor racing enthusiasts who had an interest in flying. Their racetrack is no longer in use, but can still be seen from the air on the North West side of the airfield. The airport is open 24 hours a day and incorporates a terminal building with car hire companies such as Avis and Europcar, as well as The Harvard Café Restaurant and Conference Centre.
The airport is currently used as a base for numerous flying schools such as Lanseria Flight Centre, Hover Dynamics, Superior Pilot Services, SimCentral, and Flight Training Services. Helicopter charters are also offered to and from the airport.
