HTS Middelburg
Description
HTS Middelburg (also known as Rooies or Reds) is a public co-ed school with boarding facilities in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. The school is one of the top purely Afrikaans medium high schools in South Africa, and is well known for its excellent academic, sport, and cultural achievements.
HERITAGE
The school was founded in 1927 by Mr Lampen and began with just 5 students. The school motto is “Ons dien” which means “We serve”.
ACADEMICS
Despite a new curriculum (CAPS), the HTS Middelburg's Grade 12 learners of 2014 once again produced excellent results. They had 309 distinctions of which 73 are above 90%, as well as 290 B and 31 C symbols. The grade average was 64.17%.
SPORTS & CULTURE
HTS Middelburg is best known for its rugby team, Die Rooibulle (Red Bulls), which was rated number 3 in South Africa in 2014. There are 4 fantastic rugby fields and the A field has the highest rugby poles in the southern hemisphere. HTS Middelburg also has a wide range of cultural and sporting opportunities.

Hostels
HTS Middelburg has boarding and hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The boys’ hostels are called House Douw Smit, House Hendrik Steyn, and House buks. The girls’ hostel is House Laurie Smit.
