Irene Dairy Farm
Description
Established in 1895, the Irene Dairy Farm is a popular landmark in Irene. Situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria, this working fairy farm has a herd of 120 Friesland cows that are milked twice a day, providing milk for a wide range of dairy products. It's a great choice for families, as there's plenty of space for the little ones to run around and let off some steam.
The dam behind the barns is a beautiful spot, but don’t disturb the black swans because they can be rather feisty! There are two restaurants on-site (the Deck and the Barn restaurants) which both serve a variety of freshly made breakfast and lunch options. The Dairy Shop is one of the last places in South Africa where you can still buy certified raw milk. You can also find a wide range of home-made products like cheeses, cakes, rusks, and chicken pies here.
While you cannot bring any food or drinks into the farm, you can purchase a wide range of items to stock your picnic basket with, to be enjoyed on the lawns. Children will love the kiddies' playground and watching the cows being milked from the special viewing gallery.
