Kariega Beach
Description
Kariega Beach has Blue Flag status and is the main beach in the popular holiday resort town of Kenton on Sea, between Port Elizabeth and Port Alfred, in the Eastern Cape. Nestled between two striking tidal rivers, the Kariega and the Bushmans, Kenton on Sea offers a spectacular setting for beach fun.
Set on the warm Indian Ocean, the beach is as beautiful as it is popular, with fascinating rock formations and undulating dune fields. The beach is wide, offering plenty of space for walks, games, sun tanning sessions, sand castle building, and more.
A nature reserve backs onto the beach, offering a peaceful spot for summertime strolls. The reserve and nearby tidal rivers attract a large array of birdlife to the area. Lifeguards are on duty during peak season (December and January) and there are plenty of restaurants and shops within easy reach. The parking lot located above the beach offers incredible views of the sea, where whales can be spotted in season.
