Kenilworth Racecourse
Description
Kenilworth Racecourse is the oldest racecourse in South Africa and is steeped in tradition and history. Situated in Kenilworth, Cape Town, the beautiful race course is one of the most unique and valuable horse racing tracks in the world; a long-time favourite among both South African and overseas visitors.
Not only does it offer spectacular horse riding events like the J&B Met, it is also the location of the Kenilworth Racecourse Conservation Area, a small nature reserve situated in the centre of the racecourse. Due to its location, the 52 hectare reserve has been left undisturbed for more than 100 years, making it now the best preserved patch of “Cape Flats Sand Fynbos†in the world.
Kenilworth Racecourse boasts a stylish lounge setting with prime views of the race as well as first-class bars and food vendors. It is the perfect venue for conferences, banquets, launches, seminars, weddings, cocktail parties, and all types of functions - both indoors and outdoors. Racecourse Caterers, the in-house team will take care of all your catering needs (unfortunately no outside caterers are allowed).
Western Province Racing Club owns both the racecourse and the natural area in the centre. A management agreement was established in 2006 between Gold Circle (previous owner), the City of Cape Town Nature Conservation, and CapeNature Conservation, where the parties concerned agreed to collaborate in preserving this natural "gold mine".
