Milnerton Golf Course
Description
Milnerton Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course in Milnerton, in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. The “9 out, 9 in†links type layout is bordered between the Atlantic Ocean and Rietvlei Lagoon, offering exquisite views of Table Mountain. It is conveniently set on the MyCiti bus route between Table View and the Cape Town city centre.
The course was closed at the start of the First World War and re-opened in 1925. In 1995, it underwent a major facelift due to the development of the Milnerton Links housing estate on part of the course. Some of the original holes were retained, while others were completely rebuilt to offer world class facilities.
The golf course has hosted plenty of famous events, including The PGA South African Masters Tournament from 1978 – 1983, the 2013 Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship, and The World Left Handed Golf Tournament in 2014. In 2013 Worldgolf.com rated Milnerton Golf Course 5-stars for its design, condition, service, and facilities. Famous players to have played the course include Calvin Peete, Sir Nick Faldo, Gary Player, Mark McNulty, John Bland, and Dale Hayes.
Member’s competitions are held on Saturdays, Wednesday afternoons, and Sunday mornings. Advance booking is advisable as the club’s group of loyal locals, known as the "Sunday School" uses a section of the 1st tee on Sunday mornings.
