Built in the 1970s, the Oude Wellington Wine and Brandy Estate, has morphed from humble beginnings, to being one of the big industry names within South Africa. Apart from fantastic brandies, they offer a plethora of delectable wines, such as Blanc de Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Currant Abbey, Cap Classique, and Cabernet Sauvignon. They also offer naturally sweet wines and grappas.

A tour of their facilities is in order, as is listening to birdsong while enjoying a picnic below their ancient oak trees. If you’d prefer something a tad less languid, then a trip to their restaurant won’t disappoint. Menus change frequently, and the food never fails to delight, with dishes such as slow roasted lamb-neck with mint yoghurt, chicken curry with basmati lentils and sambala, and desserts such as white chocolate and granadilla cheesecake. They offer fantastic accommodation in their Guest House, so you can spend several days, as opposed to only hours, exploring their incredible estate.
