Description
Parktown Boys’ High is a public high school for boys in Parktown, Johannesburg. It is one of the oldest schools in Joburg and consistently rated one of the best performing schools in South Africa. Parktown Boys’ caters for students from Grade 8 to Grade 12. The sister school is Parktown High School for Girls.
Parktown Boys’ was the first government school to allow boys of mixed race into a mainstream white school. It is also the first school in South Africa to have installed an international standard water-based AstroTurf.
HERITAGE
Parktown Boys’ High dates all the way back to 1920 when it was established as North Western Suburbs High School in an old police barracks in Auckland Park. The original buildings are now being used by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). Parktown Boys’ High moved to its present site in 1923 and the building is now a national monument.
ACADEMICS
Parktown Boys High is known for its excellent academic record and has produced many Rhodes Scholars. The 2014 Matrics achieved a 98.5% pass rate. The school motto is Surgite which means “Arise”.
