Description

Proclaimed in 1916, the Royal Natal National Park is a spectacular experience for any scenery lover. Not only is this home to the Drakensberg's breathtaking “Amphitheatre” (where a half-moon wall of basalt forms a 1500m high and 6km long natural amphitheater) but the this is also home to the second highest waterfall in the world where the Tugela River falls an incredible 948m.

The parks is also known for the domes that rise from the seemingly flat plateaus, of which Mount-Aux-Sources, one of the largest domes, is the most ambitious view point. You can reach the Mount-Aux-Sources by walking across the summit plateau and then scaling a 100 meter chain ladder, but for those who can't brave this feat, the dome still makes a fascinating sight. However, you need not be super fit to experience the joys of the Royal Natal National Park, as the varied topography offers walks for hikers of all grades. Even if you are a beginner to hiking, you can wander peacefully on many gentle walks.

The Royal Natal National Park, is easily accessible via the Bergville road from Ladysmith or down the Oliviershoek Pass on the road from Harrismith, only 72 kilometers away.
