Skeleton Gorge
Description
Skeleton Gorge follows a 310m scenic contour path above Kirstenbosch Gardens up towards the top of Table Mountain. Begin in the Gardens, and follow the sign posts to the start of the hike. The path is well-maintained and winds through indigenous forests, with steps to make climbing easier.
The Gorge is beautifully unspoilt, and winds its way up the mountain alongside a stream, past a few cascading waterfalls. At the top of the gorge, you will find a dam with views that make all of your effort worthwhile.
It should take about two hours to reach the top, and you’ll be promised fantastic views of the southern suburbs, the Cape Flats, and the Stellenbosch Mountains if it’s not overcast. As the route is a popular one, you should pass other hikers along the way. Be aware that the path can get very slippery so wear proper walking shoes.
