St Benedict's College
Description
St Benedict's College (also known as Bennies) is a private day and boarding school for boys in Bedfordview, Gauteng. Situated on a 40 acre estate, the school is the largest Catholic school in South Africa and one of the top 10 feeder schools for the University of the Witwatersrand.
The school teaches from Grade R to Grade 12 and has 1500 students. The sister school is Assumption Convent and Holy Rosary School. A fleet of buses transport the boys to and from Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Germiston, Glenvista, Greenstone, Modderfontein, and Thornhill.
HERITAGE
St Benedict's College was founded in 1958 by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a congregation of priests and brothers. The property is owned by the St Benedict’s Trust and the school is administered by a Board of Governors. The school motto is Veritas in Caritate which means “Truth through caring”
ACADEMICS
St Benedict's is renowned for its outstanding academic achievements. It has particularly strong mathematics, science, and IT departments.
The school has achieved excellent Matric results in the Independent Examination Board (IEB) examinations. The 2014 Matric pass rate was 100%. There has been no matric failure since 9174 and the university entrance pass rate is 95%.
