The National Childrens Theatre
Description
The National Children’s Theatre, formerly the Johannesburg Youth Theatre, is the busiest and most successful children’s theatre in South Africa. Situated on a heritage site in Parktown, the intimate theatre seats 55 adults on chairs and 50 kids on cushions in front of the stage, allowing them to interact with the cast. The theatre is run out of two historic homes; one house that has been adapted as an administration and theatre venue, and the other where many rooms are used for rehearsals, lecturers, workshops, and storage.
The theatre offers professional shows, workshops, school tours, holiday camps, life skills, educational and outreach programmes. Volunteers and donations are welcome. Past productions include The Pocket Oliver Twist, The Pied Piper and Other Tales, and Disney’s Aladdin JR, Wizard of Oz, GOGGAS!, and Seussical Jr.
