The Playhouse Theatre
Description
The Playhouse Theatre is one of the oldest amateur dramatic societies in the Western Cape. Located in Somerset West, the theatre was built by the members of the Hottentots Holland Dramatic Society and designed by architect, Harry Hargreaves. It was built in stages as money became available, beginning with just the basic facilities, such as a stage, small foyer, kitchen amenities, and toilets. As time went on, a new foyer was built, along with a workshop and the extension of the wardrobe with an office for the wardrobe mistress. The new foyer now consists of a beautifully sprung floor the exact same size of the stage, as well as an area with full catering facilities where hot beverages and light refreshments are sold.
