Vanderkloof Dam
Description
The Vanderkloof Dam (originally the P. K. Le Roux Dam) is South Africa's second largest dam in volume, and has the highest dam wall in the country (108m). It was commissioned in 1977 and is found about 130 kilometres down stream from the popular Gariep Dam. Vanderkloof Dam is fed by the Orange River, South Africa's largest river, and has a capacity of 3,187.557 million cubic metres.It is also fed by several other rivers and has small caves, scenic view points, and areas which are viewable only by boat. There are also numerous activities to be enjoyed on the dam, from angling and boating to water sports.
