Situated up at the Taal Monument, Volksmond is a charming coffee and curio shop with the best view over the Paarl Valley. It's a fantastic meeting place for family and friends to enjoy a lovely Monument Breakfast, pancakes, tea and scones, or order a picnic basket to enjoy on the lawns around the monument at lunch time.

Daily specials are scribbled on the blackboard outside the coffee shop, offering tempting meals like burgers, tramezzinis, pies, quiches, and salads, or breakfast muffins with green fig preserve. Favourites include traditional food like bobotie and homemade chicken pie, or “bredies” over weekends and on request. Don's forget to try the cheese platters! For the sweet tooth there’s a choice of carrot cake, baked cheesecake, fresh scones, and chocolate cake. Enjoy a special additional sweet treat, like apple pie, “souskluitjies” (traditional dumpling pudding) or milk tart.

Kids

“Volksmondjie” is a tailor-made menu for children under the age of 12 years. This menu has breakfasts, burgers, toasted sandwiches, and chips. There is also a kiddies' play area and a free colouring activity. Kids can build their own clay Taalmonument for just R25 per kid. Kiddies' picnics are also available at the coffee shop.

Coffee bar

A coffee bar allows tourists to get their fresh cup of coffee without the wait. Tasty snacks are also available here, such as ginger biscuits, fudge, chocolate, and ice cream, as well as ginger beer, soft drinks, and water.

Loyalty card

Take part in the special loyalty program where regular clients can apply for a loyalty card at no cost. This ensures a reduced entrance fee of R10 (instead of R20) at the gate and a free cup of coffee with every meal.

Curio shop

The curio shop has a range of Afrikaans and English books, crafts, postcards, diaries, key rings, CDs, gifts, and souvenirs for sale.
