As Easter draws closer and closer, your thoughts have likely turned to Good Friday and church, before they stray to the obligatory egg hunts and chocolates. But this traditional family bonding time is also a great opportunity for an Easter weekend away from Cape Town!
If you’re hoping to high-tail it out of the city and swap the hustle and bustle for a more sedated pace of life, check out these three fantastic Easter weekend getaways:
- Luxurious Winelands – Tempel Wine Lodge
Set on the same-named wine estate, within the lush vineyards of Paarl alongside the Berg River lies Tempel Wine Lodge – an intimate B&B that can only accommodate 12 guests at any one time. There are four guest cottages on-site that surround an old Cape Dutch-styled farm house, with gorgeous views of the winelands. There is a communal swimming pool and a guest lounge, where you can enjoy bountiful breakfasts in the morning, refreshing afternoon teas, and wine tastings from on-site vintages in the evening.
The Riverside cottage is perfect for families, as it sleeps four guests on twin beds, has an en-suite bathroom, a private porch with views of the river and garden, and a cosy courtyard you can enjoy coffees and braais in. The other three cottages are more intimate affairs, as they sleep only two people each and have queen-sized or king-sized beds, en-suite bathrooms, patios, and tasteful décor. All cottages come with air-conditioners and alarm systems. Click to read more.
- Ocean Atmosphere – The Beach Villa Boutique Guest House
With gorgeous views over the bay of Robben Island and Table Mountain, is The Beach Villa Boutique Guest House – your ocean-themed Easter accommodation, that’s a decent driving distance from Cape Town. Here, you can choose to unwind alongside the large pool on cosy sun-loungers, or take a three minute stroll to the nearby beachfront. The intimate dining room, which serves breakfast daily, calls to mind a tropical paradise, with tasteful wickerwork chairs, exotic centrepieces on each table, and large windows to enjoy the view of the nearby surf. They also have an on-site wine cellar with wonderful vintage wines.
The rooms on offer vary to accommodate all traveller types, but all have rich, earthy colour palates. With a self-catering suite for two, a sea facing double or twin rooms, a family suite, and lavish honeymoon suite, you’re certain to find a space to unwind and relax in. All rooms have 4-poster beds, TVs, DVDs, mini bars, complementary tea and coffee, Wi-Fi, wine and snack baskets. They even provide a picnic basket with blankets and crockery (food not included). - Artistic Retreat – Blommenhuis B&B
Within the historic town of Montagu, famed for its mineral-rich hot springs, is the charming Blommenhuis B&B. With a capacity for only six guests at a time, you’re guaranteed personal attention, and as it’s owned by a working artist, you’ll have numerous opportunities to ooh-and-aah over the beautiful wall murals and paintings. The lush garden setting, salt-water pool, and historic appearance of the house lends a restful air to your hearty outdoor breakfasts, and this B&B is well-located to do day trips to the local hot springs. If you ask nicely, I’m certain that you’ll be allowed to organise an Easter-egg hunt in the garden, to entertain the children.
There are three rooms on offer that sleep two guests each. The Main Room offers a queen-sized bed, en-suite bathroom with a shower, and a patio surrounded by fragrant rose and lavender bushes. A complimentary hospitality tray with tea, coffee and Muskadel is also provided. The Room for Roses offers two antique single beds with views over the rose garden from the quaint sash window. There is an en-suite bathroom with a bath and large shower, as well as a private lounge. A hospitality tray with tea and coffee is provided, as is the complimentary Muskadel. The Fleur Delis Suite is a beautiful room, with high ceilings, a fireplace, and a queen-sized bed. The en-suite bathroom offers a Victorian bath, and it also has a private lounge and garden.
