About the Legend Golf & Safari Resort

It’s no wonder event planners chose to host the Big Five Marathon at the exceptional Legend Golf & Safari Resort in the Waterberg, Limpopo. Situated on a Big 5 game reserve, the aptly named resort comprises luxury lodging, unique golf courses, an Endangered Wildlife Centre, and many other facilities. Enjoy a variety of activities from game viewing and helicopter flights, to spa treatments and lounging by the poolside.

Legend’s 18-hole Signature Course is the longest championship golf course in South Africa, with each hole designed by one of the world’s top golfers, including the likes of Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh, and Padraig Harrington. It has been ranked “The Best New Course in South Africa” by Golf Digest and provides one of Africa’s most spectacular game and golf experiences.

No trip to Legend is complete without taking on the challenge of the Extreme 19th. The tee is positioned on Hanglip Mountain and only accessible by helicopter. The iconic hole lies 430m below, on an Africa-shaped green, making it the world’s highest and longest Par 3 – a natural draw card for celebrity golfers.

The 10-hole Tribute Course replicates some of the world’s most famous Par 3s.  It pays homage to some of the greatest holes ever designed and highlights some of golf’s most dramatic moments. The course features 1 self-designed hole (An African Redan) and 9 world famous holes, including the 11th hole of St Andrews Old Course, the 16th hole (“Redbud”) of Augusta, and the 8th hole (“The Postage Stamp”) of Troon.

Legend Golf & Safari Resort has no shortage of eateries to whet your appetite. The Lookout Restaurant is available for private dinners; the magnificent 460-seater White Lion Boma and the Brul Bar are available for large functions; while the Clubhouse, Farmhouse Tea Garden, and Baobab Coffee Shop offer light meals and refreshments.

Accommodation is provided in luxurious suites that are built in the bush, with no fences or gardens. The suites consist of three or four individual bedrooms linked by walkways. They offer unmatched elegance that ensures relaxation and reflects the African wilderness. The generously proportioned rooms include a small seating area and luxurious en-suite bathroom. Large picture windows offer panoramic views while glass sliding doors lead onto a secluded outdoor patio on the edge of the wild bush.
