I was recently forwarded an email with a collection of old photographs that has been taken in Cape Town, including the above image of Cape Town Station. Aside from the location, no details were given as to the history of the photographs, so I can’t tell you when they were taken or by whom. Nevertheless, I love any opportunity to browse through old photographs and image what life was like “back in the day”. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!

Total Garage in Main Road, Sea Point

Just “hanging out” in the Table Mountain cable way.

Sea Point. It looks searingly hot, but everyone is still dressed in formal attire.

Sea Point promenade. Always a great place for a family stroll! I reckon those pants would fit well with today’s fashion…the ladies’ pants, not the kortbroek.

Sea Point beachfront…when you could still see the swimming pool complex.

Newlands Rugby Stadium. This match is reportedly between Western Province and Transvaal.

The beautiful Newlands Cricket Grounds…before the big pavilions were built.

Muizenberg beachfront as popular as ever. The putt-putt looks in great condition.

Kalk Bay Harbour. I love all these old-school cars!

Hout Bay.

De Waal Drive and Devil’s Peak. I think I could handle the traffic (or lack thereof) of those days.

A view of Cape Town from the National Road (N1).

The old Cape Town docks.

Cape Town Airport. Notice the SAA plane on the right sporting the old orange tail.

Adderly Street…as festive as ever with the beautiful Christmas lights!

When do you reckon these photographs were taken? Which is your favourite? Do you have old photographs of South Africa that you would like to share?
