The Dullstroom Bird of Prey and Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1997 to rehabilitate injured or sick raptors so they might have a second chance in the wild. The daily flight demonstrations at the centre is a must-see, as the audience can interact with the birds and the presentations are extremely informative. Wild About Whisky is a one-stop whisky shop in the heart of Dullstroom that offers a spectacular variety of some of the best whiskies in the Southern Hemisphere. Mrs Simpson’s

Mrs Simpson’s is a quirky restaurant in Dullstroom with antiques and decorations that pay tribute to Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor. She was an American socialite, who famously said, “You can never be too rich or too thin”. There is a big portrait of Mrs Simpson against the wall, surrounded by a wonderful collection of handbags donated by patrons. They serve a delectable range of superb meals, from pork belly and duck to oven roasted marrow bones.

Anvil Ale House

As you leave Dullstroom, in the direction of Lydenburg, you’ll find Anvil Ale House. This brewery and pub is set in a lovely garden where you can enjoy Blonde Ale, Pale Ale and Baltic Porter (among others) in the shade of the trees. Anvil Ale House’s quality artisanal beers and locally sourced food fits in perfectly with the slow food movement that has taken root in South Africa. Most of the food on the menu comes from the local area, like the German sausage from Nelspruit for example. For dessert, the boozy cake or the chocolate rum cake is an absolute must, each containing a generous helping of liquid courage.

The Outpost Dullstroom

The Outpost is a welcoming self-catering guest farm set in the tranquil surroundings of Dullstroom. There are two large dams with jetties and you can enjoy an early morning stroll or sunset walk to observe the abundant birdlife and catch a glimpse of their game, including blesbok, eland, springbok and ostriches.

Wonder Waters Tonteldoos

At Wonder Waters Tonteldoos you can stay in a log cabin in pristine natural surroundings with views of the hills, valleys and trout dams. Your cabin is within walking distance of three dams and you can even go on a hike to view the magnificent rock art petroglyphs. Wonder Waters is situated high in the mountains, 30 km from Dullstroom.

Valley of the Rainbow Estate

Valley of the Rainbow Estate is located outside Dullstroom and is surrounded by mountains, indigenous forests and rivers. You can participate in activities such as fly-fishing, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding. The river that runs through the property feeds the five lakes, each stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Valley of the Rainbow Estate is the perfect getaway to experience peace and tranquility away from the bustling city life.
