Life may not always be a party, but let’s make it a game! Everyone vacations differently and that’s why every getaway can’t be the same. It’s time to pick up the dice and take a seat, because TravelGround is challenging you to a game of Holiday Monopoly!
Since the rules of board games have always been the topic of great dispute, even before the first round, we think it’s a good idea to share our in-house Holiday Monopoly rules:
- Wherever you land, stay there for at least three days to reach a state of ultimate relaxation.
- Try to stay at one of the bucket list destinations at least once per game.
- You will receive bonus points for stepping out of your comfort zone and spending time in a glamping tent or on a houseboat.
- Don’t leave the kids or the dogs at home, since there are both pet-friendly and family-friendly options available.
So without further ado, let’s play! Whether you’re playing with the top hat and looking for a luxury stay, moving around with the doggie and need a pet-friendly stay, or taking your iron pawn with you because you want to land on a self-catering property, we’ve got you covered!

We start off our game in the Western Cape
We’ve just passed GO and after receiving a long weekend as a reward, we’re getting ready to spend a few days in the Mother City’s province. Oceans Wilderness in Wilderness is a luxury stay on the beach along the Garden Route. Alternatively, you can take Buster and spend the weekend in Struisbaai near the southernmost tip of Africa. Should you wish to reroute and enjoy some wine tasting in your own private tasting room, proceed to Robertson.
Congratulations! After throwing two sixes in a row you can spend the night at the first bucket list stay on the game board.

Time to maneuver into the land of windpumps and Karoo plains ─ welcome to the Northern Cape!
This round is all about sightseeing and the Northern Cape is filled with many jewels worth exploring. You can visit the Augrabies Falls, which is set on the Orange River ─ the longest river in South Africa. Alternatively, you can take Fluffy for a walk to the Standard Bank branch in Victoria West ─ one of the oldest branches in South Africa. If you’re feeling lucky, you can draw a chance card and stay in Kimberley. You may just find a sparkly diamond among the gravel in the road …
Well, what do you know! You actually found a tiny stone which enables you to spend two nights at one of the bucket list stays.

Time to go to Limpopo
We’re heading to the bush to experience some of the best wild stays South Africa has to offer. If you’re lucky enough to be playing with the top hat, your luxury stay will be at a game lodge in Vaalwater. Should you wish to travel with Buddy, move to the right and spend the weekend in Kampersrus. If you prefer the gateway to the Kruger National Park, the self-catering stay in Hoedspruit is perfect.
You can spend the next round at this bucket list stay, your reward for sticking to the rules and being a good sport!

Here and there, this round we’re enjoying some Eastern Cape flare
Graaff-Reinet is the perfect place to enjoy a luxury stay coupled with local hospitality. Should Coco wish to have a small-town stay, Willowmore is exactly where you want to spend this round. Alternatively, throw the dice a second time to make sure that you land on one of the best and most beautiful self-catering stays in Nieu-Bethesda.
Congratulations on travelling half way through South Africa! Here’s a bucket list stay as a reward!

Crossing over into the great Free State
Are you a few spaces behind the front runner? No problem, you just threw a six and can proceed to the beautiful Free State where you can spoil yourself in Clarens for one round. If you want Lucky to join you, throw the dice again to move to a lovely pet-friendly cottage. Alternatively, move two spaces to proceed to Parys and enjoy a self-catering stay.
Life’s all about taking chances, and this one paid off! Enjoy this bucket list stay picked just for you!

A chance card leads you over the border to Namibia
Our neighbouring country has so much to offer. Since you’re the front runner in this game, feel free to spend the night on a private houseboat on the Zambezi River. Would you prefer to take Charlie and the children on a beach getaway instead? No problem! And if a simple desert stay is what you’re looking for, throw the dice again and proceed to Sesriem.
Congratulations on visiting Namibia for the first time! Here’s a bucket list stay as a reward.

It’s time to take care of some business in Gauteng
Since the player on your right landed on your property in the previous round, you can now afford to spend some time in a luxurious hotel. Alternatively, you and Bella can enjoy a great B&B stay in Bedfordview. Should you wish to escape the city centre, why not go for a self-catering stay in Heidelberg.
It’s a race to the finish line and you most definitely need to spend some time at the last bucket list stay before the game is over!

To the province of warm water and lovely weather
Opting for a luxury stay in Hluhluwe will ensure that you experience the most beautiful sunsets that KwaZulu-Natal has to offer. In the event that the dice lands on a five, you and Max can enjoy a braai in Underberg for your last round. After finishing the game, spending some time on your own private deck in Darnall sounds like a great plan as well!
Once everyone has reached the last bucket list stay, it’s time to enjoy a sundowner with the rest of the players!
