Kleinmond, meaning “small mouthâ€, earned its name from its location at the mouth of the Bot River Lagoon. It is situated within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve which supports over 1600 species of fynbos, 150 of which are endemic to Kleinmond. The reserve also features three areas of ancient indigenous forest which provides nature lovers with numerous secluded hiking and walking trails. During your exploration you may spot the rare Strawberry Rain Frog, March Rose proteas, a number of exotic birds, otters, or even an occasional leopard.
Despite its beauty and tranquillity, Kleinmond is the largest of the four coastal towns that fall within the biosphere and as such serves as the commercial centre for the Hangklip-Kleinmond area. Traditionally a retirement village, Kleinmond comes alive during the holiday season.
Kleinmond boasts a stunning Blue Flag beach and a placid lagoon that are great for water sports. Whether it’s swimming, canoeing, kayaking, or boating you enjoy, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The town’s coast is renowned for large numbers of lobsters in summer and whale watching in winter – making it a sought after destination all year round.
