Ons het nie lekker geslaap nie.

Mooi plek in mooi ligging.

We didn't sleep well.

Nice place in nice location. But that's where the good points stop. When we arrived the hostess was inept as if we had bothered her to arrive on a Sunday afternoon. The introduction that we have to set the alarm in the evening because there were incidents did not reassure us for a peaceful visit in Grayton. The house needs a decent clean - especially the kitchen. The crockery also needs attention as it looks like the owner left all the single cups and plates that were left here - or picked them up from a second-hand shop. Nothing matched and much of the kitchenware was 'chipped'. We mostly went out for dinner because we weren't comfortable cooking in the kitchen. There was construction going on at the entrance to the nature reserve, and the contractors were storing building materials on the lot and in the early mornings they also plugged in power to the house - we were not informed of this. On the last night of our stay we went to look for another place to sleep in the town, because during the day garden services arrived and the workers looked in the windows a lot to see what we were doing and who was there, so much so that we were no longer comfortable didn't feel like sleeping there that night. Definitely would not recommend the place to anyone.

At Nature's Door 's response

This was a very surprising review to read. We receive only positive feedback week after week on another platform with an average guest rating of 4.93 out of 5 stars which we are very proud of.

To address some of the points: We have had zero security issues in all the years owning this house. It is simply standard practice to tell visitors about the alarm as most people come from the city and ask us about it.

We love our mismatch mugs. Some of them were chosen by our kids. It’s our family home, and the house has character, warmth, and memories which other guests seem to love. I will however be sure to check for chips and replace them immediately.

The gardener's name is Jeff. He’s a wonderful man and has nurtured the beautiful garden for years. You should have said hello. Chatting to Jeff is good for the soul. I’m sorry that you were offended by him ‘looking into’ the window. I’m sure he meant no harm and he would be mortified if he knew that he offended anyone. We rely on Jeff to ensure the garden looks as wonderful as it does. It’s a big selling point for guests.

I was not aware that any construction workers kept tools on the property until now. This is disappointing to hear, and I can only apologise on their behalf. I believe the improvements to the nature reserve entrance are now complete, which we will all benefit from.

The house manager who lives locally is on hand 24/7 to assist with any issues during your stay, but she was not notified of a single concern during your stay. If there were any issues with cleanliness, she would have sent our cleaner around immediately to address it. She could have also asked Jeff to come back on another day so as not to inconvenience you, and ensure that the workers find somewhere else for their tools.

It is very difficult to assist a guest that remains silent. We have some guests that return year after year for memorable family holidays and remain a firm favourite in Greyton for visiting families and holidaymakers.

This is our first negative review in all of the years opening up our home to guests. We take your review seriously, but perhaps we are not for everyone. We don’t offer a modern, pristine house. It’s a country home in the most wonderful location where guests tell us they come to escape and find real tranquillity and de-stress from their busy lives. The mugs are quirky, and the birds are loud, and the frogs keep you awake at night. It’s wonderful, and we love it.
