Dit was lekker, maar die woonstel was nie so goed toegerus nie. Dis 'n pragtige area en als, maar dit was nie so nice dat ons 'n tweede keer sal teruggaan nie.

It was nice, but the apartment was not that well equipped. It's a beautiful area and all, but it wasn't so nice that we will go back a second time.
There was a lot of load shedding. The apartment has backup power for lights, but it doesn't last very long. No gas stove or even braai facilities for when there is loadshedding. The kitchen is very small and compact and could be better equipped. We did not like that the cleaner welcomed us. We had to talk to the caretaker all the time on WhatsApp if we wanted to know something etc. Instructions on how to get into the complex are very good. My husband was just very frustrated with the lot of loadshedding and the fact that you can't make food properly. I would suggest they put a small braai there at least for the holidaymakers just to at least be able to make food.

Beachclub 17 Whale Apartment 's response
Thank you for the feedback, however, we cater for short-term stays and unfortunately we and many South Africans did not know that we would get so much load shedding over this period. We are working towards connecting a system to help through load shedding times and will have this in place soon. We are not always in town and was away in December so the person on duty will allow you in when necessary. We do send out guest instructions on how to get in but bare in mind with all the load shedding things pack up like the gate and intercom and even battle with receiving phone calls. This is all out of our hands but we are working a way forward to help our guest enjoy their stay on the future.

The view is incredible.
Beautiful mountain view to both sides. The unit is brand new. We had a great stay during the Two Oceans marathon and were wonderfully central to zip around both sides of the mountain.

Quick walk to the beach, security complex, modern, neat.
We were very close to the beach and very safe in a complex with gates and codes to the beach. Our place was neat, luxurious and beautiful, but perhaps not ideal for a family with small children. Unfortunately no outdoor play area, and the lawn that does surround the pool is open and not secured. So even though the mountain view was something incredible it was difficult to keep little ones occupied in a less spacious apartment. Had to supervise a lot if they wanted to walk outside due to open pool and complex with cars going up and down. The safe walking distance to the beach was a great treat.

Weekend ruined, because of extra few mins in the shower.
Beachclub 17 Whale Apartment 's response
Good morning Melissa,
After me repeatedly apologising on behalf of another guest who was in the apartment next to you and who could have been the only person banging or knocking on your wall.
I can only give you my word that I definitely did not knock or bang as I would not chase business away especially in these hard times, however I did, however, message you after receiving a complaint from the other guest to keep the showering to a limit as per our house rules which are available in the apartments for your perusal. I do not go into the apartments whilst guests are checked-in.
The guest did complain to me about the amount of water being wasted in your apartment and asked me if there was kids playing in the shower as the water has been running for some time. Now, this could have been due to them deciding that you should stick to house rules and not be wasting water because of the crises we have recently experienced in the Western Cape. Even though she had no right knocking on your wall and upsetting my guests, I did offer you a discount on another stay and you declined. More than that i cannot do.
Once again apologise for someone else's mistake.

These guests arrived a few minutes before 2 pm, while my check-in time is from 2 pm. Unfortunately, during the load shedding period, we had a backlog in the laundry for the drying of linen for the guest apartments. However, it was just a case of the guest waiting +-5 mins before they could enter the apartment as the cleaning lady had just covered the bedding and was taking all her cleaning equipment out of the rooms. Again this was unfortunate due to the load shedding which under the circumstances any normal human would understand.
I am always very friendly and accommodating towards my guests and in this instant could not apologise enough to them for making them wait a few minutes and even offered for them to come inside the main house and sit in the lounge whilst waiting. Michelle said it was alright that they would wait in the car. I was asked if we are wheelchair-friendly as she had brought her aunt to stay who is in a wheelchair and if they could braai in the complex.
My listing specifically says not wheelchair friendly, no noise, no parties and not equipped for small children and self-catering. They then asked for a chair for the Aunt to use in the shower and I went out especially to purchase something for her to sit on in the shower. I also thought to accommodate even though no braai allowed I offered if they used a gas braai this would be ok since they did not take note of what facilities the accommodation had that they had booked.
In spite of the fact that they were told not to braai with wood because of the smoke going into other peoples apartments, the house rules were disobeyed, they were very noisy till late evening disturbing the other guests. The lounge suite was left with dirty black marks from the braai wood/charcoal and left the apartment smelling very bad of firewood. We had to do a complete cleanup including washing all the curtains to get rid of the smell. Today a week later I can only now allow people back into the whale apartment.
