Ida Olive Shepherds Cottage is a self-catering retreat on the remote Giddy Goat Farm, a working dairy goat farm and wildlife sanctuary located 6 km outside McGregor. Ideal for nature lovers seeking a peaceful escape, the cottage sits near a shallow dam and is surrounded by the Robertson Succulent Karoo. Large glass sliding doors and windows seamlessly connect guests to the natural beauty outside, where indigenous vegetation and wildlife thrive.
The cottage offers 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower, bath, toilet, and basin. The main bedroom has a king-size bed, and the second features a queen-size bed. Bedding, linen, towels, and select toiletries are provided.
Completely off the grid, the cottage has no electricity. The open-plan lounge and kitchen area are equipped with a gas stove and refrigerator. An indoor fireplace keeps the cottage warm on cooler nights. Solar lamps, candles, and fairy lights provide lighting, while a mini solar panel powers USB fans and a phone charger. Mobile signal is limited to certain spots on the property. Guests can use the Boma-style braai area for starlit cooking or the gas braai on the verandah.
Guests can explore hiking trails, birdwatching, enjoy goat experiences with cheese tasting, or stargaze. Nearby, there are mountain biking routes, fishing spots, and wine-tasting venues. The charming village of McGregor is only a few kilometres away, offering grocery stores, a bottle store, a fuel station, restaurants, a theatre, tea gardens, pubs, and craft shops.
