Description
Rockwood Mountain Cabin is a quaint eco-friendly mountain cabin in the Karkloof Private Nature Reserve. The cabin sleeps 6 adults in 3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. The unit is accessed using a gravel road and is suitable for 4 x 4 or high-clearance vehicles only.
Rockwood Mountain Cabin is situated on the edge of a natural clearing in a secluded location with spectacular views of the Karkloof Forest. Due to its remote location, this eco-friendly unit uses solar power for lighting and gas for all other requirements.
The main bedroom is upstairs with a king-sized bed and the second bedroom is furnished with 2 single beds. The upstairs bathroom is shared and has a shower. The downstairs bedroom has 2 single beds and has an en-suite bathroom fitted with a bath. Towels, linen, soaps, and shampoo are provided.
The lounge, dining and kitchen areas are open plan. The kitchen is equipped with a gas fridge, stove and oven. Basic condiments like tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cooking oil and spices are available. The cabin has an entertainment deck with a table and Big Green Egg ceramic cooker. Charcoal and firelighters are provided.
For the outdoor enthusiast, Rockwood has over 25km of worldclass and well-maintained trails for walking, hiking, running and mountain biking through grasslands, over streams and lush indigenous forest of the Karkloof Nature Reserve. Enjoy ball games on the lawn, card and board games indoors or simply relax on the patio. A viewing deck of the Karkloof Canopy Tours is a short distance away.
4 x 4 or high clearance vehicle access is recommended for the last 10km especially during wet weather. The roads are maintained but the weather is not.
Escape from city interruptions as this unit has cell phone reception but no Wi-Fi. Rockwood Mountain Cabin is 20 min drive from the other Rockwood units. The Karkloof area will surprise you. The area hosts many swimming, cycling and running events throughout the year. The Midlands Meander and trees of the Karkloof Canopy Tour are on your doorstep. The closest town is Howick with numerous shopping options and restaurants along the way. The area is well-known for its stunning natural attractions including both the Howick and Karkloof waterfalls, as well as its historical significance as the site where Nelson Mandela was captured in 1962. Howick and the Karkloof are the ideal destination for nature and outdoor enthusiasts.
