The house was beautiful, and the location was amazing. My friends and family loved every minute of it.

Alles wat nodig is vir 'n heerlike kuier saam met familie en vriende!

Gemaklike, groot, ruim en netjiese huis. Pragtige uitsig van kamers, swembad en stoep. Jy sal nie teleurgesteld wees!

A must stay!

The stay was absolutely incredible! The views were unbelievable, and the house was fully stocked and clean. The property was beautiful, with so much to do just at the house.

Beautiful house with lots of space.

We booked both houses, Windmill and Ridge Road Country House, as we are a family of 16 that celebrate Christmas in July annually. We found that Ridge Road could comfortably accommodate us with enough cutlery, etc. I always find it helpful to find out more about the rooms. The main house is on multiple floors and is not suitable for crawling children or children who cannot swim. It is also not suitable for wheelchairs or crutches (that was me one year, thankfully all healed now), or a person finding stairs a challenge, like my Gran. The wall panel heater didn’t do much to warm the room. Room 1 is on the same level as the kitchen and best suited for an older person, avoiding too many stairs or steep stairs, as this house does have many. It has a walk-in shower and a king bed that can be made into two singles. My Gran slept here. I would recommend packing an extra little heater as this room is chilly. All the beds do have electric blankets and some have the wall panel heaters, but I didn’t feel they did much to warm the rooms. Room 2 is in a basement with its own door to the patio area. It also has its own small bathroom (shower) and can be made into singles or a king. This room can also be cold. Upstairs, Room 3 has the most amazing view and sun, with an en suite bathroom (bath only). Room 4 and 5 also have beautiful views and share a bathroom (shower only). Both rooms can be made into singles or king beds. Room 6 is like a small cottage with its own fireplace. It includes a bathroom, sunroom, shower (steam shower - not working at the time), and bath, and patio. It is also easier to carry any heavy luggage to the second floor through Room 6 as it has access to the parking area. Pack wood or buy in town, as wood is not available to purchase on site. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. I do have a suggestion for the host/manager, that he be available 24 hours on WhatsApp for emergencies, as the number given is not his and is only available during the gallery times (where you fetch the key). We did eventually get the host's number, and he is also not on WhatsApp.

Great getaway to unwind. Clarens, a quaint town 3.5 hours from JHB.

Loved it.

My kids and I loved the Windmill house. It provided us with an excellent location to relax and the perfect distance from everything to feel secluded, yet convenient. The style of the cottage lets you experience the Free State, with wonderful well-thought-out touches.

Breathtaking!

What a beautiful place! Coming from the concrete jungle, this was the best place for us to come and unwind. The views were stunning, the place was tranquil, and it has absolutely everything you need for a great time. They will definitely see us again.

Baie dankie aan Ridge Road Estate vir die wonderlike akkommodasie. Ons het so lekker gekuier, alles wat jy benodig is daar plus vele meer. Lupa, die hond, het kom kuier en ons het haar vreeslik geniet, sy is self baie fotogenies. Ons sal 100% weer kom kuier!

Best place in/near Clarens for a group.

Spacious and elegant, it felt like we were in a Tuscan villa. We were a group of family friends travelling together for a long weekend.

The decor is beautiful and the surroundings so peaceful and relaxing. It's possible to hike on the property and Clarens is less than a ten-minute drive for great restaurants and arty shops. We enjoyed the board games on offer and even swam in the pool a few times! The rooms are large and airy with plenty of space for everyone.

Perfect location. Amazing views! Just what the soul needed.

We stayed in Windmill Cottage and it was just perfect. Had everything we needed (including all considerations for load shedding). Completely private but close enough to town if we wanted to pop in. The furnishings were great and very comfortable. We fell in love the minute we walked through the gate. Did not want to leave.

Pragtige uitsig, staproetes en huis!

Ridge Road het vir my amper gevoel soos 'n stukke van Italië! Die kothuis het drie slaapkamers met hulle eie badkamers- elke paartjie het dus hul eie privaatheid. Daar is 'n plaasswembad waarin 'n mens lekker kan afkoel. Ons het meeste van die tyd op die stoep gekuier, want die uitsig is asemrowend! Hierdie eenheid is naby aan Clarens en bied privaatheid. Ons en veral ons hondekinders het dit vreeslik by Ridge Road Estate geniet! Die eenheid se dekor (moderne plaashuis) is baie mooi en inspirerend!. Die eenheid het 'n paar 'load shedding' ligte en 'n gasstoof. Die kombuis het alles wat 'n mens nodig het! Daar is nie sekuriteit by die vensters nie, maar ons het nie enige probleme gehad nie! Daar is baie bosluise (soos in enige oop veld) so kyk maar net dat jy hulle van jou diere afhaal as julle klaar gestap het! Daar is 'n rivier en waterpoele. Daar is 'n groot hond wat graag kom kuier - sy naam is Fuss - hy wou graag speel met ons honde en was nie 'n probleem nie. Maar as jy nie van honde hou nie, kan jy die hekkie toemaak en dan kan hy nie inkom nie! 'n Mens moet R1000 betaal om die sleutel te ontvang- breekskadedeposito! Daar is nie wifi nie - maar met só 'n uitsig sal 'n mens 'n lekker breuk van jou slimfoon kan vat! Ons was by Ridge Road vir Kersfees en dit was werklik spesiaal- daar is selfs 'n regte Kersfeesboom buite die huis. Ons het ons tyd by Ridge Road Estate geniet!

Beautiful cottage for dog lovers, pay attention to listing.

This was a beautiful cottage, well appointed and clean. Kitchen has everything you need, from electric and gas appliances to a zester and cheese grater. Plenty of pots, pans, utensils. Modern decor. No aircon, but have fans. May be cold in winter but they have a wood-burning stove. We didn't use the rustic pool since it rained. Bathrooms are tight but are usable. Modern layout great for families with teens (wouldn't suggest for small ones). Not great for anyone with mobility issues as the grounds are rocky and could be slippery in winter or with rain. Also, you really need to like dogs. They have a giant Irish wolfhound that you will either love (we did, but our dog was scared of her for the first two days though she was as friendly as she could be) or you will not love. She can get into the yard and wants to play/have a chat at all times of the day. However, she is an awesome hiking companion. She took me all over the farm, on and off the trails. Be wary of ticks! I picked up two on my hike. And didn't even think about ticks so didn't spray. Property is secluded and gorgeous. Pay attention to the listing! The pictures I see mix up the windmill cottage and the larger property. Make sure you know what you are renting. No backup power during load shedding. We forgot to check and it seems to be regular around 6 - 8 am and before dinner so our meal prep was hampered. Would recommend to anyone with teens and dog owners/dog lovers. They require a R1000 deposit when picking up the keys. I don't remember that in the listing. Pricey location to be honest, compared to other dog-friendly properties but it's beautiful and we enjoyed our stay! Also, no wifi. We didn't use the DSTV so cannot comment, but there is limited cell service.

Disappointing weekend.

The farmhouse is full of character in a lovely setting, but pricey and some of the facilities struggle to cater for the full capacity of the house. The main issue was the giant farm dog that was continually coming to the house seeking attention and food, we lost a pack of boerewors the first evening. The dog also loves to swim in the pool then run around wet and muddy, including inside the house. There is no real way to keep the dog away as the house is not enclosed, so it was a regular nuisance. The house does not come with a cleaning service either, despite the cost or the mess that the dog brings daily, cleaning is a pricey extra. When we asked the owners to please contain their dog especially during dinner time, we were met with a rather rude refusal. Disappointing for a quiet family retreat.

Beautiful place.

We enjoyed every moment the beautiful house, the view, the view from the rooms the kitchen and then the dog we love him. The swimming pool and the braai area were the best thank you for a beautiful Christmas.

Amazing stay

We had a great time staying in the cottage at Ridge Estate. The relaxing environment is perfect for a quiet break away. The cottage offers spectacular views, especially when relaxing in the pool. At night we were blessed with amazing lightning storms as they lit up the surrounding mountains. We stayed for a week and the cottage had everything we needed. A bonus was the dishwasher and laundry room. The farm offered plenty of space for us to roam and let the dogs burn some energy. It is also a quick drive to all the pet friendly walks at Clarens Dam. Will definitely recommend for anybody looking for a comfortable, relaxing stay.

Wonderlike ervaring, pragtige huis!

Al ons verwagtinge was oortref! Huis is pragtig en baie goed toegerus met alles wat mens benodig. Sal vir seker weer teruggaan.

Hierdie is voorwaar een van die warm, gemaklikste en mooiste verblyf met alles tot jou beskikking.

Ons het heerlik warm gekuier in die aande en in die dag het ons die heerlike son geniet wat deur die groot vensters inkom. Die beddens het heelik warm geslaap met skoon linne. Ons viervoet was ook heel tuis en veilig met die tuin en braai-area wat omhein is.

Lekker plek om te ontspan.

Interessante dekor in cottage. Alles was pragtig skoon en daar was selfs vars blomme om ons te verwelkom. Alle geriewe is beskikbaar, sou net graag houers vir die mikrogolf wou gehad het en skerp messe. So ook 'n toeklap-braairooster. Die webwerf-foto is misleidend. Ons het die foto van die hoofhuis gesien, maar nooit dié van die cottage nie.

Baie gerieflike en goed toegeruste verblyf vir 'n wegbreek vir groter groepe.

Uitsig is pragtig en die koolstoof is ongelooflik. Houdvloere skep lekker warm atmosfeer en kraak wanneer jy loop.
