Rooiheuwel is a self-catering Karoo Guest Farm in South Africa, situated in the beautiful surroundings of the escarpment of the Nuweveld Mountains in the Great Karoo with a typical mountain-karoo landscape, 80 km west of Beaufort West and 60km north of Leeu-Gamka.

Accommodation comprises a farmhouse, a cottage, a farm shed with an indoor fireplace ideal for an overnight stay, a stone shepherd’s house in the veld and a camping site under thorn trees with electricity and ablution facilities.

Our new unit is Grootdroom, a beautifully constructed, self-contained mountain chalet built on the banks of a dry riverbed surrounded by the Nieuveld Mountains. This holiday home was made for comfortable living with well-equipped features such as a complete 12-volt photovoltaic solar system that uses the sun as a renewable energy source to satisfy its electricity needs, e.g. lights and fridge.

The Karoo is an enormous semi-desert with the widest variety of succulents in the world, a diverse flora, a variety of primates, game, reptiles, invertebrates and birds.

Rooiheuwel is a safe and ideal destination throughout the year for hikers, offering the first green flag accredited hiking trails in the Karoo, birdwatchers, 4×4 touring groups, dual-purpose motorbikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, conference groups, environmental education groups and campers.
