Can't wait to go back.

Loved this little spot as a breakaway with my dog. The property is fenced in so she could roam freely. Very comfortable place with beautiful views. Loved every minute.

Heerlik gebly.

Ons was baie gerieflik en knus. Die plek is veilig omhein en ons hond was saam. Die woud cottage se unieke karakter en uitsig oor die Botrivier boloop het ons in vervoering gehad.

Cozy, beautiful, comfortable.

We only stayed for one night, but the host was very kind and accommodating. Judging by the photos it looks like the accommodation was battered by the floods a while back, but it has been wonderfully restored and improved. We will certainly be back for a longer visit soon.

Oak Cottage is charming and full of character. I loved being surrounded by trees and the greenery on the roof of the cottage as well. We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay, a great place for a breather and escape from city life. I would definitely recommend it for people who need a quiet retreat and who want to feel like they are close to nature, but still have access to WiFi and other amenities. Our host communicated directions clearly and welcomed us, after which we were left to our own devices, which was perfect.

Wonderful mountain stay in a sustainable spot.

We had a great stay at the Underhill Farm. The cottage was clean and charming and had "sustainably made" written in every aspect of it. The kitchen was well equipped, the enclosed braai area was great when the wind picked up, and the boma next to the river was perfect for toasting marshmallows and hanging out. The splash pool was great, but the hot tub was pretty murky. My 3-year-old had a lot of fun exploring the riverbed and walking up to see the cows at a neighboring farm. There were a lot of flies - as can be expected in South Africa's warm months. I'd recommend taking citronella candles or some other kind of bug repellant along.

Secluded, quaint, quiet, peaceful.

Excellent accommodation and decor suiting the hobbit theme. Really quaint and quiet, the surrounding farm was beautiful and the plunge pool was absolutely refreshing! And the only complaint is that we forgot to buy more of the complimentary cider given to us, which is produced on the farm that was lovely!

'n Sprokieservaring.

Underhill het 'n geweldige stormskade gehad. Ten spyte daarvan is daar baie moeite gedoen om ons te akkommodeer. Dit is verstaanbaar dat die plek dus nie presies volgens die foto's was nie. Dit is egter steeds speels en oulik, wat die pragtige natuur komplimenteer. Die beddegoed is skoon en van hoë kwaliteit. Ons verblyf op Underhill het saamgeval met die rugby-wêreldbekereindstryd. Om almal te akkommodeer, het ons gasheer, Julian, al die gaste genooi om die eindstryd-uitsending saam te kyk, sodat die internet 'streaming' niemand in die steek laat nie.

This place was absolutely magical.

Cold plunges in the morning and 2 fireplaces inside the cottage for the winter nights. Good for the soul.

Ons het by Underhill gearriveer op die plaas en was stom verbaas oor die mooi versteekte kothuis. Dit het ons so bietjie aan Harry Potter laat dink. Die blyplek is langs 'n lopende waterstroom met 'n buitestort en swembadjie. Daar was ook geen beurtkrag nie. In een woord; magical!

Knus en gerieflik teen die populierbos.

'n Hansie en Grietjie-huisie met luukse geriefies van 'n ruim warm stort, tot sagte bed en beddegoed, voldoende breekware en messegoed. Die ligging op die stroombedding teen die populierbos betower. Ons kom terug vir die Jacuzzi en privaat lapa in die populierbos. Die keer het die knetterende stofie 'n koue wintersnaweek in 'n gesinssprokie met nog baie hoofstukke, omskep. Onthou braaihout, die kaggelhout is steeks met braai.

Fantasties! Sal beslis weer gaan.

Not for me.

The farm is in a beautiful location. I booked a 3-night stay. The host, Julian, called ahead to advise that there was a problem with the toilet in the unit that I had booked (with my 15-year-old dog) and as a result, I could stay in a slightly larger unit at no additional cost. I had no qualms with this as long as we would be warm and my dog could be accommodated. The directions received from the host were spot-on and it was easy to find the farm. Upon arrival, Julian briefly greeted us and pointed us in the direction of the cottage. The steps down to the cottage had not been swept in a long time but perhaps this is just the feel that it is supposed to have. The cottage is situated right on a bubbling stream - very pretty location - and has a fully fenced garden area to accommodate those traveling with dogs. At the front door of the cottage was an empty plastic 5-litre water bottle - not sure what it was doing there and there was no outside bin to dispose of it, so I just left it right there. The front stoep was secured with a ladder that had been turned on its side and a broom lying behind it. To the right of this was a lounger of some sort with an extremely dirty lounge cushion draped over the backrest. The garden had dog poo from I assume the previous inhabitant's pooch. The "splash pool" was 3/4 filled and did not look very inviting (but it was cold, so I had no intention of utilising it in any event). The cottage is quirky to say the least but comes with the ultimate luxury - a dishwasher! (It needed salt and rinse aid though - there was only powder available). It should be noted that the place is in dire need of a proper scrub-down. Almost everything I touched was grubby. So I washed most of the cutlery, some of the crockery and a few other things before using it, wiped down the counters and cleaned the outside of the fridge. There was only one wine glass in the cottage (which needed cleaning) - granted there were two additional plastic ones. The sponge scourer, pot scourer and steelwool had seen better days and are in need of replacement. The rubbish bin did not have a lid (but a clean black bag in it) and the rim was very dirty (I did not have the inclination to clean this). The toaster and microwave were not clean. The shower curtain was gross - very dirty and had not seen a wash in a long long time. The basin plug in the bathroom could do with a scrub as well as the shower floor. Almost all plugs in the cottage were covered in a thick layer of dust and/or grime. The one behind the headboard in the main bedroom had a bunch of loo paper stuffed into the back of it for some reason (the bed lamp on that side did not work). There were no real "amenities" in the cottage. An empty body wash as well as a shampoo squeezy bottle and the remnants of a used soap bar greeted me in the shower. I just threw this away. There was a fairly watered-down version of dispenser hand wash in the bathroom. The towels were white and they were clean. The kitchen had no tea/coffee etc. (it is not advertised as such either and I brought my own anyway). There was a bottle of Underhill cider in the fridge. I was not sure whether someone had left it behind or whether it was for me to sample. So I just ignored it and left it there upon my departure. There is no room guide or file or anything to tell you more about the area, the farm or the way in which to best utilise/enjoy the facility, etc. I suggest the host consider getting these in place. The wi-fi worked on my phone but not on my laptop. I thought that some downtime could do no harm so decided to live with the phone-only wifi status. We did not have to worry about loadshedding - we were blissfully unaware of any electricity outages and the gas geyser in the bathroom ensured that we had no shortage of hot water at all times. I brought along blankets and placed these on the couch in the lounge - both myself and my (elderly) dog slept on top of these so as to not damage or dirty the couch (which had a few stains anyhow). I can therefore not vouch for the bedding but it looked clean. The cottage has an old wood stove/fireplace with a crate of wood and kindling supplied. We used this as it warmed up the unit nicely. As there was no outside bin, we did dispose of the ash (only once it had cooled off completely) in the only bin available being the one in the kitchen area. Upon my departure, I dusted and cleaned as much as possible of the mud (it was rainy) and dog hair and any trace of me having visited. I also used that broom by the front door behind the ladder to sweep out the lounge area. So hopefully the host found a clean cottage upon my departure. Potentially slightly cleaner than I found upon my arrival. So, there are a few good and a few not-so-good things - I'd say with a proper clean it could be a very different experience. Attention to detail is required though, considering that one pays around R1,000 per night. I left a day early as my old dog had developed breathing problems and needed some veterinary care. Unfortunately, I left his custom-made collar (with his name embroidered on it) and his lead behind. I only realised this when I was about 200 km away already and contacted Julian to ask if he could please retrieve this and courier it to me (at my cost of course). I am yet to receive a response to my request.

Buitengewone, besonderse en unieke woonplek.

Fantastiese en besonderse blyplek, soos uit 'n sprokiesverhaal. Ons het heerlik ontspan en afgeskakel. Pragtige natuurskoon en staproetes.

Ongelooflik.

As jy The Lord of the Rings al gekyk het en die Hobbit dorpie ooit wou ervaar, is dit presies die gevoel wat jy gaan kry. Soos 'n sprokie in regte lewe.

Vreedsaam en rustig.

Pragtige omgewing met besonderse unieke blyplekke. Veilige toegekampte erf vir honde. Eko-vriendelik. Sal beslis weer wil terugkeer in toekoms.

Very basic, not worth the price.

The venue is quite simply overpriced.

Relaxing and peaceful.

This little gem in the valley was absolutely beautiful and delightful. Will soon be back. Thank you Jules. You have created a magic space.

Was well worth it.

No issues other the stairs are quite uneven and should be navigated carefully. Quiet and peace full, will definitely go back and would love to check the other cabins.

Lekker rustige kuier!

Rustic, rural, compact, easy living.

The farm is a place where you can have peace, quiet and privacy. Very laid back and you feel a bit like you're in hobbit territory. We loved our stay but a little bit of maintenance is needed in the bathroom area of the cottage we stayed in.

Lovely place, really quiet and beautiful with a friendly and helpful owner.

It's amazing to see everything is secondhand en ecological friendly and on top of that the owner makes his own cider!

Uniek! Pragtige omgewing. Rus en vrede.

Die akkommodasie is verskriklik oulik! Gee unieke atmosfeer en ervaring. Langs rivier gebly en dit was so rustig- perfekte plek om te rus en te herstel en die plaas lewe te geniet, in pragtige omgewing.

Rustig, ontspannend, herlaai.

Die huis met sy heerlike stoep het 'n goeie balans van rustic, gemak en kwaliteit. Die hoofslaapkamer met sy dubbel-buitedeure wat in die populierbos oopmaak laat dit voel of jy in die bos slaap! Dit is baie sentraal vir 'n uitstappie na die pragtige Elgin-/Grabouw- en Botrivier-area, waar ons heerlik gaan wynproe en eet het. Ek kan ook myself indink om op wintersaande op die leerbanke voor die kaggel uit te span.

A fabulous getaway.

We needed a complete getaway and Underhill Farm gave us just that - a beautiful cottage in beautiful surroundings that allowed us to have lazy days and star-filled nights. The private plunge pool was such a treat, as was the outdoor shower. We can't wait to return!

Rus en vrede.

Wow! Unieke, sylville dekor. Hoor die kabbelende water en blare wat ritsel in die wind. Privaat. Ons sal definitief weer gaan kuier.

We so enjoyed our stay, James made us feel right at home. The trees, the river the calmness. House we stayed in was beautifully decorated. Our dog so enjoyed it too. We will be back.

'n Stukkie Hemel vas gevang!

UnderHill FarmHouse was so rustig en die hoofslaper wat oor die rivier uitkyk was hemels, ons het so lekker ontspan en sal vir seker weer kom kuier. Die kinders het lekker in die dam gaan swem en die perde gevoer. Al waaroor ek kan kla is die teleurstelling van die kinders toe ons daar aankom en die plonspoel het nie water in nie. Ons bepreek altyd waar daar 'n swembad is omdat die kinders hou van swem, koud of warm is hulle altyd in 'n swembad. En veral die naweek was dit baie warm so ons het uitgesien om af te koel in die plonspoel. Maar verder was dit regtig baie lekker.

Dis hemels en die ervaring van 'n leeftyd.

Julian en James is fantasies! Die farmhouse is luuks, dis 'n plek waar jou gees net kan rustig wees. Die plek is veilig, skoon en ek sal definitief my gesin weer vat.

Wonderlike wegbreek slegs ‘n uur en ‘n half se ry van Kaapstad af.

Geen selfoonontvangs maar wel WiFi. Sal vir seker weer 'n besoek aflê!

Dit is beslis nie vyfster verblyf nie, maar vir mense wat lief is vir die natuur is dit 'n heerlike ervaring!

Die laaste kilometer of wat na die verblyfplek is die pad nie geskik vir motors wat plat op die grond loop nie. Die verblyf was uitstekend vir mense wat gewoond is aan kamp of nie luukse verblyf. Dit is skoon, het 'n lekker swembadjie en is lekker privaat. daar is 'n wandelroete en die plek is omring deur pragtige bome.

Stunning plek vir wegbreek uit stadslewe.

Was awesome, sal beslis weer besoek.

Underhill Farm truly is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the best part is you don't have to travel hours on end to get there! It literally took us less than 2 hours to escape to this little piece of heaven. If you have a family there is ample space for kids to play freely and have fun, without the worry of something happening to them.
