Alvi’s Drift Private Cellar
Description
This historic family cellar was founded in 1928 and is situated between Villiersdorp and Worcester, along the Scherpenheuvel Ward within the Breede River Valley. The emerald vineyards produce a variety of wine types, from hearty reds and semi-sweet whites, to crisp Sauvignon Blancs, and in 2012 they won the Silver VERITAS and Silver Michelangelo awards for their ADS Chenin Blanc 2012. One of my favourite sparkling drinks is produced by them, and is called Naughty Girl Sparkling Rose – a crisp, slightly sweet, and very refreshing taste. They are open during week days and only close on public holidays, you will need to call ahead to organise a cellar tour.
There are other interesting things to see and do other than exploring the wine cellar, such as visiting the dairy facility which produces mainly cheese, and strolling between the citrus and stone fruit trees within the farm. A game reserve on-site has numerous bucks, such as eland, springbok, and gemsbok, as well as a fair number of ostriches.
