Bikini Beach
Description
Bikini Beach is a Blue Flag beach situated in the small coastal town of Gordon’s Bay, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The beach is a very popular summer holiday spot as it is sheltered between the Hottentot’s Holland mountain range and the harbour, so it is calm even on a windy day. It is an excellent swimming beach due to its warm, clear and calm waters, and it is a favourite among surfers.
The beach is always crowded with teenagers and is said to have received its name from the bikini-clad female students of Stellenbosch University who frequent it. The beach is funded by the City of Cape Town which ensures that its facilities such as the public showers, changing rooms, and grassy promenade are well maintained. During peak season, there are security guards and lifeguards on duty to ensure maximum safety. Although the beach is small and parking is limited, it is well worth the visit. A variety of restaurants and shops are located just a short walk away.
